Best Annual Events In Central Minnesota

Almost any time of the year, you will find something happening here. These are some of the highlights you can look forward to every year in Minnesota.

January

To start the year off, you can begin on a high note in Hackensack. The Back to Hack event usually takes place in mid-January, and it’s an excellent way to warm up mid-winter. Enjoy the bake sale, chili contest, fireworks, fishing competition, and snow golf. 

February

In February, you can take part in the Small Business Winter Market in Hackensack. Swing by and see the handmade arts and crafts and a book sale.

March

St. Patrick’s Day is a big deal. In Hackensack, the Birchwood Bar puts on a St. Patrick’s Weekend of Fun, and there is the Moondance Bonspiel Curling Tournament.

June

A long-running music event that lasts all summer is Walker Bay Live. The event occurs every Thursday from June to the end of August. The event typically involves live music, food, and art.

Other events in June include Spring Bike Fling, Cass County Fair, and Sweetheart Days.

July

Set your eyes on the Moondance Jam. This is a music festival that takes place in mid-July and it features rock and classic rock music. It all takes place at the Moondance Fairgrounds near Walker. Some previous acts include Bret Michaels, Skillet, Godsmack, REO Speedwagon, and many more. 

Another big Walker event is Walker Bay Day. The day starts with a 5K run/walk, followed by a craft fair, opening ceremony, magic, a water ski show, and more fair events.

Don’t forget about Independence Day. Walker puts on a great show. Walker on the 4th is a fun time with a parade, live music, fair food, and, of course, fireworks. 

August

A fun event that occurs every August is the Leech Lake Block Party. The party extends over two days in the Leech Lake area. You can expect live music, games, movies in the park, face painting, a watermelon-eating contest, and more family-friendly activities. 

Head to the shores of Leech Lake to witness the Leech Lake Regatta. You can enter your sailboat or watch the event from the shores of the lake, which takes place over three days.

Other events include the Minnesota Indian Golf Classic, and Northwoods Art & Book Festival.

September

There is no better way to welcome autumn to Minnesota than by attending the Moondance Harvest Moon Festival. Get your taste buds ready to sample craft beer and wine and listen to live music. 

Another exciting event happening this month is the Hackensack Chainsaw Event.

October

October is the height of autumn, so it makes sense to celebrate the season at Hackensacktoberfest. This is Hackensack’s annual Oktoberfest celebration in the downtown area. Enjoy live music, big steins with plenty of beer, and bratwursts.

November

Get yourself in the holiday spirit and bring your family to the Festival of Lights. The event follows Thanksgiving and is a sight to behold as downtown Walker lights up.
