May 11, 2024. The first opening weekend in Minnesota was celebrated in 1948. Since then, on the Saturday two weeks before Memorial Day in May, Minnesota has opened its waterways to thousands of angers.
Do I Need A Fishing License?
Yes! You need a Minnesota fishing license if you are 16 years old or older. An annual license lets you fish from March 1 to the last day of February the following year. Be aware that there is an additional cost if you plan to fish for trout, salmon, or sturgeon. If you are from Minnesota and fishing in a state park, you might not need a license, but it’s best to check beforehand. If you are out of state, you must buy a fishing license, regardless of age.
What Fish Can You Catch In Leech Lake and Pleasant Lake?
You can find walleye, muskellunge, northern pike, yellow perch, and largemouth bass in Leech Lake.
